If Taiwan secessionists dare to cross the red line, resolute actions will be taken in response, a Chinese mainland spokesperson said on Thursday.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks soon after Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te once again promoted the fallacy of "Taiwan independence" during a speech earlier in the day.
In his speech, Lai claimed that Taiwan is an "independent and democratic sovereign country" and played up the so-called "Chinese mainland threat."
Chen said Lai's remarks prove that he is a "saboteur of cross-Straits peace" and a "cross-Straits crisis maker."
The spokesperson reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory and has never been, and will never be, a country.
"Taiwan belongs to all the Chinese people. This is an indisputable historical and legal fact, and it is the status quo across the Straits that cannot be changed," he said.
He also denounced Lai for instigating separatist sentiment on the island and obstructing cross-Straits exchanges, warning that anyone seeking "Taiwan independence" is doomed to fail.
No individual or force will be allowed to split Taiwan from China, and there is no room for "Taiwan independence" separatist activities in any form, he added.
