Over 1,000 purple-flowered plants are blooming in Taiyuan Botanical Garden in Shanxi Province. These are Scutellaria shanxiensis, a rare and endangered species exclusive to Shanxi, distinct from the commonly known medicinal variety. The species was first and last recorded in 1957, but a research team rediscovered it last August in Yuncheng City. They transplanted it to their lab and have since achieved large-scale propagation.
