An ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission line connecting Hami in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to Zhengzhou in central China's Henan Province has set a new record by transmitting over 10,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity this year as of March 16, marking a year-on-year increase of 11.2 percent.

The Hami-Zhengzhou ±800 kV UHVDC transmission line is the first UHVDC project designed to transmit electricity from Xinjiang to central China.

The transmission line, which was put into operation in January 2014, passes through six provinces and autonomous regions, including Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi and Henan, with a length of 2,192 kilometers.

The project has improved Henan's electricity supply over the year and promoted Xinjiang's economic development.

Located at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains, Hami boasts abundant wind and solar resources, making it a key area for renewable energy generation.
