Thurday marks the 40th anniversary of the start of the construction of China's first self-designed nuclear power plant, Qinshan, located in Haiyan County in eastern China's Zhejiang Province. The plant has become an energy base and an icon in the development of China's nuclear energy and its applications. It also conducts research and development for nuclear batteries, such as those for cardiac pacemakers, and even energy sources for lunar rovers.
