Under DPP authorities, TSMC is 'a piece of meat on the chopping block': spokesperson

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has become as a piece of meat on the chopping block as the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities used it to curry favor with the United States, a Chinese mainland spokesperson said Wednesday.

It is reported that U.S. President Donald Trump asked TSMC to increase its investment to $200 billion in the U.S. despite TSMC's early March pledge to invest $100 billion. This also raised public concern on the island over the growing trend of TSMC not only shifting its manufacturing processes but also gradually transferring high-end research and development operations to the United States.

In response, Chen Binhua, spokesperson of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, slammed the DPP for turning a blind eye on TSMC's turning into "USMC."

It showed that the DPP only cares about its own selfish agenda and does not care about the well-being of Taiwan compatriots and the interests of the industrial sector, Chen pointed out at a press conference.

With the purpose of soliciting external support for their "Taiwan independence" agenda, the DPP will go further down the road of "selling Taiwan" and "destroying Taiwan," he added.

Chen warned Taiwan's industrial sector and residents would not only lose their current jobs but also their future development opportunities.

The spokesperson also dubbed DPP's Lai Ching-te as "a pro on selling Taiwan," saying Taiwan residents' concerns about Lai's abuse of power are far from groundless worries.
