And we are staying in the world of fashion. Shanghai Fashion Week is in full swing with a variety of events getting the annual festival underway. Our reporter Wu Bin takes a look at which brands are set to make a splash and how an African delegation of fashion enthusiasts is making their debut.
Traditional Kunqu opera, Combined with modern dance and music. This is how Shanghai Fashion Week is being kicked off. This brand comes from Zhejiang province. It's the first time it's being showcased at the event. The brand blends Chinese elements throughout its creations.
GAO YING, Deputy General Manager, EP YAYING "We can see peony patterns on the show, as well as patterns and craftsmanship from China's Miao minority group. It is also refreshing to see traditional Kunqu opera performances combined with contemporary music."
Founded in 2003, Shanghai Fashion Week has become one of the most dynamic fashion weeks around the world. The fashion week focuses on developing the "debut economy". Nearly a hundred new products and a thousand brands will make their debuts this time. The fashion event is also attracting buyers from around the world.
RAPHAEL DERAY, Sales Manager, Printemps "So for me, my goal is to spot new designers we can work with, introduce them to Paris, introduce them to fashion scenes in New York. I think China is at a very interesting point for fashion. In the last two years, the Chinese people are looking more towards China than outside, so I think very cool things are coming up."
For the first time ever, a delegation from Africa is participating in Shanghai Fashion Week. 22 designers from 12 African countries are here to seek cooperation opportunities and more.
HANNAH RYDER, CEO, Development Reimagined "We believe this is a great opportunity for them and also because China's consumer market is growing, and we're here to help them to take advantage of this market and bring Africa to China."
Since 2018, Shanghai has released policies to promote the "debut economy". By the end of 2024, more than 3500 brands have held debut events, and over 1200 opened their first stores in Shanghai. Wu Bin, CGTN, Shanghai.
