China says it is taking resolute measures to defeat any attempt for "Taiwan independence." The remarks were made on Thursday by Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Chinese Defense Ministry, in response to Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te calling the mainland a "foreign hostile force." Wu says Taiwan has never been a nation.
