China's advancements in science and technology and its expanding international collaborations are driving global progress and shared development, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun told reporters at a regular press briefing on Thursday.
Responding to a question on China's sci-tech achievements and cooperation efforts, Guo highlighted remarks by Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, who delivered a keynote speech earlier in the day at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2025. Ding underscored China's accelerated push for high-level self-reliance in sci-tech and integrating innovation in both technological and industrial sectors.
Guo noted that China's innovation-driven development strategy has significantly enhanced its sci-tech capabilities, facilitating a smooth transition between traditional and emerging growth drivers. This progress, he said, has not only helped China navigate economic challenges but also demonstrated its long-term development potential.
"I believe you have noticed China's technological breakthroughs from digital networks to artificial intelligence, from exploring outer space and the deep sea to improving daily life," Guo told a reporter from China Media Group. "These breakthroughs have delivered tangible benefits to its people."
Guo added that these advancements align with global discussions at the BFA on AI governance, digital capacity-building and tech collaboration.
The spokesperson further outlined China's commitment to international cooperation in innovation, citing ongoing initiatives such as the China-Japan-Republic of Korea Innovation Cooperation Center and a joint AI innovation hub with Laos. He also confirmed that China has signed agreements with Pakistan to train astronauts, with the China Space Station set to welcome its first international crew member.
"History shows that openness and collaboration broaden the path to progress," Guo said. "China will continue working with global partners to foster an inclusive, equitable and nondiscriminatory environment for sci-tech advancement, ensuring its benefits reach more nations and peoples."
