Phalha Manor was once a symbol of feudal rule in Old Xizang, where generations of serfs lived under oppression. Phurbu Tsering, a guide at the manor, recalls his mother's painful life. After the democratic reform started in 1959, serfs gained political, economic, and social rights. Today, their descendants are masters of their own destiny.
