China advanced to both the men's and women's quarterfinals at the FIBA 3×3 Basketball Asia Cup in Singapore after wrapping up pool play on Friday.
All four Chinese team members taking part in the men's event – Guo Hanyu, Yan Peng, Zhang Dianliang and Xiang Zhichao – compete in the country's 3×3 Super League. They were drawn into Pool B with Chinese Taipei and India.
China breezed past Chinese Taipei 21-10 in their first game in the afternoon. The second contest in the evening against India was much closer, and the two sides were tied at 17-17 going into the final minute. In the end, Guo scored the game-winner with a two-point jumper for his side. They will face No. 2 seeds Qatar from Pool D in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
On the women's side, China were slotted into the same pool as last year's runners-up New Zealand and South Korea. The team's young roster – Hu Duoling, Li Wenxia, Li Yuyan and Zhou Mengyun – averages less than 23 years of age. They lost to New Zealand by one point, 18-17, in the first game.
In their second contest against South Korea, the Chinese players showed dominance with their size advantage and solid defense under the rim, en route to a 19-12 win. They will meet Vietnam in the quarterfinals.
