Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region has improved protection of economic and social rights, as the rights of people in the region to an adequate standard of living, education, work, health and social security are better guaranteed, according to a white paper issued by China's State Council Information Office on Friday.
By the end of 2019, all 628,000 registered impoverished people in the region had been lifted out of poverty, the white paper said. In 2024, the per capita net income of those lifted out of poverty in Xizang increased by over 12.5 percent.
Xizang's economy is on a steady rise. In 2024, its GDP reached 276.5 billion yuan (around $38 billion), growing by 6.3 percent year on year, while infrastructure and social development continues. CGTN analyzed the key economic figures from the white paper in the following graphic.
