Chart of the Day: China aid rushed to Myanmar after devastating earthquake

A devastating magnitude-7.7 earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, resulting in over 1,600 fatalities and more than 3,400 injuries.

The Chinese government quickly responded, dispatching 82 rescuers and over 20 tonnes of emergency supplies. Multiple regional teams from Yunnan Province, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Shenzhen City have mobilized with search-and-rescue equipment, medical kits, and essential supplies. The Chinese Red Cross has also provided tents, blankets, folding beds, and relief kits for affected families.

Beyond China, global aid has poured in. The United Nations has allocated $5 million for emergency relief. Malaysia has sent a 50-person rescue team, while Singapore has deployed 80 personnel and four rescue dogs for search-and-rescue efforts. New Zealand has pledged $1.14 million for recovery operations.
