Friday's powerful magnitude-7.9 earthquake caused many residential and religious buildings in the villages around Inle Lake, the second-largest lake in Myanmar, to collapse. The Inle Lake landmark, the Phaungdawoo Pagoda, was also damaged. Due to the earthquake, the water level around the pagoda has decreased by about three feet. The quake also caused cracks in the pagoda's platform and walls of the religious buildings. The structural damage in Shan State, where the Inle Lake is located, is considerable.
