Following a devastating magnitude-7.9 earthquake in central Myanmar at 12:50 p.m. on Friday, China swiftly launched rescue operations. Within hours, multiple Chinese teams had mobilized, bringing emergency aid and expertise to the neighboring country.
The United Nations, Malaysia, Singapore, India and New Zealand, to name but a few, have also provided assistance.
As the golden 72-hour window – the period after a disaster when the chance of finding survivors alive is highest – closed on Monday, Chinese teams rescued those who had been trapped for over 60 hours. Rescue efforts continue.
