Xu, Li earn silver medals at FIS Snowboard/Freestyle/Freeski World Championships

Xu Mengtao of China earned the women's aerials silver medal at the FIS Snowboard/Freestyle/Freeski World Championships in Corviglia, Switzerland, on Sunday.

A total of three Chinese skiers – Xu, Shao Qi, and Chen Xuezheng – advanced to the final. Xu received 99.16 points from her second run, the second-best effort of the day, to trail only the 105.13 tallied by Kaila Kuhn of the USA, while Danielle Scott of Australia finished third with 96.93 points.

After competing at the World Championships for the seventh time, Xu continued her streak of reaching the podium, while Chen took fourth place and Shao ended up sixth.

Earlier in the day, Xu's compatriot Li Fanghui picked up a silver medal of her own in the women's ski halfpipe event. After entering the final with a leading score of 95.00 points from the qualification round, Li impressed the crowd again on her first run by collecting 90.25 points. She was the only skier to surpass 90.00 on the opening run.

Zoe Atkin of Great Britain underperformed on her first attempt and received just 18.75 points, but bounced back to top all athletes after finishing her second run with 93.50 points. Li garnered 93.00 for her second run to end the day in second place. The bronze went to Cassie Sharpe of Canada, who secured 88.00 points.

Li's performance allowed her to stand on the podium at the World Championships for the first time in her career. The other three Chinese skiers – Chen Zihan, Zhang Kexin, and Liu Yishan – came in sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
