The worst wildfires in South Korea's history have been burning since March 21, 2025. Thirty people have been killed and a further 45 injured, while more than 3,500 houses and 30 national heritage sites have been damaged. The fires have so far spread across over 48,000 hectares, according to ROK Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.

CGTN Stringer traveled to the severely affected North Gyeongsang Province and interviewed local victims and rescuers. Jo Soo-gap, a resident of Yeongdeok County, said his house and everything in it had been destroyed. He expressed hope that the government would help him and his family rebuild their homes. Kim Woo-seok, chairman of the Pohang Medical Association, spoke about the dangers of chronic diseases and psychological trauma.
