Shanghai Shenhua made a thrilling comeback from a goal down to secure a 3-1 victory against Yunnan Yukunin in the Chinese Super League (CSL) on Wednesday night, marking their second consecutive win and propelling them to second place in the table.
Yunnan opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Pedro received the ball from Xu Hongjie and set up Yu Chugui, who unleashed a stunning half-volley from outside the box that found the back of the net.
The hosts equalized in the 63rd minute when Gao Tianyi struck a volley that deflected into the corner of the net. Yunnan's captain, Yi Teng, received a second yellow card and was sent off in the 79th minute, leaving his team at a disadvantage.
Just six minutes later, Wu Xi connected with Saulo, who was perfectly positioned for a simple tap-in, giving Shenhua a 2-1 lead. In injury time, Saulo created space for himself and scored his second goal of the match, sealing the victory at 3-1.
With this win, Shenhua remain unbeaten this season, sharing ten points with the two-time defending champions, Shanghai Port, but sitting in second place.
Elsewhere, Beijing Guoan managed to secure a 2-2 draw away against Tianjin Jinmen Tiger. Just three minutes into the match, Guoan defender Uros Spajic was transported to the hospital due to a head injury.
Li Lei gave Beijing the lead in the 27th minute with an instinctive finish from a tight angle. However, Tianjin turned the game around after 70 minutes, thanks to a brace from Alberto Quiles, who has now scored four goals this season.
Despite this setback, Yang Liyu's fortunate cross-shot in added time ensured that Beijing Guoan walked away with a valuable point on the road.
Meanwhile, Shandong Taishan slipped to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Chengdu Rongcheng, Changchun Yatai were held to a 1-1 home draw by Wuhan Three Towns.
