The South African Consulate in Shanghai, in partnership with Brand South Africa and Development Reimagined, hosted a dinner for the African designers attending and showcasing at the 2025 Shanghai Fashion Week. South African Consul General in China Phuti Tsipa shines a spotlight on the great relationship between China and South Africa, mentioning that "South Africa is the number one African trading partner with China for a number of years, and China is (South Africa's) number one trading country." Tsipa says she will be happy if she walks the streets of Shanghai and finds South African brands in the retail stores. Tshepiso Malele, Brand SA country head for China, also highlights how the Shanghai Fashion Week initiative "is really a fantastic platform for Brand South Africa to consider from a collaboration perspective," and helps to "amplify the opportunities for the designers from Africa" in the Chinese market which has welcomed them "in a very warm way."
