Vietnam fruit exports soar amid growing popularity in China

Vietnam is currently in the peak of its fruit harvesting season, with an abundant yield of lychees, mangoes, durians and jackfruit. With a flourishing harvest and growing international demand, Vietnam's fruit industry is poised for continued expansion.

Leveraging the advantages of free trade agreements, Vietnam has expanded its export network to major markets, including China, the United States, South Korea, Japan, and Australia. Among these, China remains the top importer of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables.

Vietnamese bananas, prized for their delicate texture, seem to have become a staple in Chinese import markets. Meanwhile, mangoes – renowned for their thin skin, thick flesh, abundant juice, and natural sweetness – along with jackfruit, known for their rich flavor, and honey-like sweetness, are a popular choice among Chinese consumers.

According to Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country exported fruits and vegetables worth $6.66 billion in the first 11 months of 2024, with $4.1 billion in exports directed to China alone. The sharp rise in shipments of key fruits such as durians, bananas, mangoes, and jackfruit has further cemented China's position as Vietnam's largest export market.
