Moon samples collected by China will be on display at World Expo 2025, which opens on April 13th in Osaka, Japan. For the first time, samples collected from both sides of the Moon will be showcased together in a foreign country. We spoke with Hu Hao, Chief Designer of the Chang'e-6 mission, which was the first to bring back samples from the far side of the Moon. He shared insights on the mission and the upcoming exhibition.

HU HAO, Chief Designer, Chang'e-6 Mission "The fact that China's lunar soil samples will be showcased at the China Pavilion is very meaningful. It symbolizes the advancement of China's aerospace capabilities and technological progress. It also reflects our confidence in the peaceful use of outer space. Our efforts aim to contribute to the common development of the international community. Previously, no one had ever collected samples from the far side of the Moon. Scientists have been highly interested in these samples, but for us, it was a great challenge. Now, with the Chang'e-6 samples, our understanding of the Moon has deepened significantly. From a detailed observation perspective, there are some differences between the samples from both sides of the Moon. Scientifically, the differences are quite significant. However, from a visual standpoint, they appear relatively similar."
