Chinese table tennis players keep progressing at WTT Champions Incheon

Four more Chinese players advanced to the men's and women's quarterfinals at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions in Incheon, South Korea, after beating their opponents on Friday.

Top-seeded Wang Yidi survived an all-Chinese women's singles battle against Qian Tianyi in five games 11-9, 9-11, 11-3, 6-11, 15-13. Wang trailed 3-0 at the start of the decider, but soon adjusted her playing style, and tied the game at 4-4. The battle remained close until they were knotted again at 10-10, before Wang outperformed her compatriot in the end to progress at the tournament. She will face home hopeful Shin Yu-bin next.

China's fifth-seeded Kuai Man defeated Kim Na-yeong of South Korea 11-7, 12-14, 11-7, 11-5 for a place in the last eight, but was later swept by Japan's Miwa Harimoto in Saturday's semifinals.

Second-seeded Chen Xingtong of China swept past home player Joo Cheon-hui 11-8, 11-9, 11-8 to reach the quarterfinals, where she will take on Japanese seventh seed Mima Ito for a spot in the last four.

On the men's side, sixth-seeded Lin Gaoyuan of China defeated Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany 11-7, 12-10, 12-14, 11-3 in the quarterfinals. Lin's next opponent will be home veteran Lee Sang-su.
