Buyunchaokete of China defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain 6-4, 6-4 in the Monte-Carlo Masters men's singles qualifying match in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, on Sunday, earning his qualification for the Association of Tennis professionals (ATP) Masters 1000 clay tournament for the first time in his career.
Ramos-Vinolas made the tournament final in 2017 but lost to his compatriot Rafael Nadal. Both held on their first two service games to hold each other 2-2 in the first set. Then Buyunchaokete broke the opponent by scoring four straight points before clinching the set 4-2.
The second set was much more open as both converted a break point in the opponent's second service game. Buyunchaokete then added his third break in the match for a 3-2 advantage. He then held to extend his lead to 4-2 and claimed the set 6-4 to win the match.
In his Monte-Carlo Masters debut, Buyunchaokete will face No. 13 seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy in the first round.
