The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed on Tuesday that China, Iran, and Russia will hold trilateral consultations on the Iranian nuclear issue in Moscow from April 7 to 8.
Spokesperson Lin Jian said that China supports Russia in hosting this trilateral expert-level consultation and views it as a further step toward advancing a political and diplomatic resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
"I would like to reiterate that China firmly believes resolving the Iranian nuclear issue through political and diplomatic means is the only correct approach," said Lin.
He added that China will continue to maintain communication and coordination with all relevant parties, and work toward a balanced solution that addresses the legitimate concerns of all sides, in order to uphold the international non-proliferation regime and maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.
In response to another question regarding reports that the U.S. and Iran "were poised" to begin direct talks on Iran's nuclear program, Lin said that all parties concerned should make joint efforts, strengthen dialogue and engagement, and prevent further escalation of the situation.
He called on the U.S. to stop resorting to threats of force and maximum pressure, and to demonstrate political sincerity, engage in dialogue and consultation based on mutual respect.
