Kanlaon Volcano in the central Philippines erupted early Tuesday, spewing ash up to 4,000 meters into the atmosphere and triggering local school closures. The eruption occurred while the area around the volcano on Negros Island was still under evacuation orders. Currently, Kanlaon is at alert level 3, with level 5 being the highest. It is one of the 24 active volcanoes in the Philippines.
