Eighteen-year-old Chinese shooter Wang Zifei clinched her first ISSF World Cup gold medal after winning the women's 10m air rifle final at the ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Monday.
Wang previously excelled in South America at last year's Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru, where she claimed gold medals in both the women's and mixed team 10m air rifle events. Her first ISSF World Cup medal was a silver in the women's 10m air rifle at last year's event in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Wang entered Monday's final sitting in third place after the qualification round, trailing the leader, Kwon Eun-ji of South Korea, by 1.7 points.
In the final, Olympic bronze medalist Audrey Gogniat of Switzerland took an early lead. Wang remained among the top three after the first 10 shots, and moved into the lead after the second elimination round by delivering consecutive inner-ten shots.
In the end, Wang achieved a final score of 254.1 points, just 0.4 points shy of the world record held by her compatriot Huang Yuting.
Kwon took the silver medal with 253.1 points, marking her second trip to the second step on the World Cup podium. Gogniat claimed the bronze.
The competition continues on Tuesday with the women's 10m air pistol and men's 25m rapid fire pistol finals.
