For 52 years now, 77-year-old French sinologist Remi Mathieu has immersed himself in the study of Chinese culture. During his long career, he has authored many books and papers, one of which adopts the tree peony as an extended metaphor for China and its civilization. Using this unique symbol, he hopes to share his perceptions of China and elevate Sino-French cultural exchanges to a new level.
