March to June is the breeding season for the endangered crested ibis, a bird species under first-class state protection in China. Three male crested ibises were caught on camera fighting for a mate among blossoming trees at Hanzhong Crested Ibis National Nature Reserve. The species was nearly extinct, but their population in northwest China's Shaanxi has surpassed 7,700, which is 70 percent of the world's total.
