From 54 percent, then 104 percent, all the way to 125 percent within a week, the Trump administration made tariffs on China skyrocket, even going so far as to renege on its own policies, pooling all its focus on China. It tanked U.S. credibility on the international stage and invited fierce domestic backlash. Compared to its reckless lashing out and the doom and gloom "tariff apocalypse" headlines in the Western media, what we are witnessing is China's calmness and its unwavering defense of its interests. If the U.S. thinks mounting tariffs could get us to the negotiating table, well, all that can be said is, good luck with that.
