In spring 2025, Youyiguan Port, or Friendship Pass, in Pingxiang City, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has seen a freight surge as China and Vietnam steadily advance smart port development.

The Chinese system has entered joint testing, and Vietnam's project, approved in August 2024, is progressing fast. Measures such as intelligent inspection and paperless clearance have improved customs efficiency.

Currently, about 1,500 vehicles pass through the port daily, and cargo waiting times have dropped by roughly 20 percent, making it a new driver of regional trade.

The Dau Tieng solar power plant in Vietnam, undertaken by the East China Electric Power Design Institute, has generated 1.5 billion kWh annually since its 2019 launch. The plant has significantly increased the share of renewables in Vietnam's energy mix.

The project is regarded as a key milestone in Vietnam's green transition. It has won the overseas Luban Prize, one of the highest honors in China's construction industry awarded to Chinese companies for outstanding quality in international projects.

Meanwhile, equipment commissioning has been completed at a waste-to-energy project in Ho Chi Minh City. Once operational, it will process around 1,000 tonnes of waste daily, and is expected to generate over 300 million kWh annually.

The project supports both waste reduction and sustainable energy supply, contributing to environmental management and resource efficiency.

In transport connectivity, the 13.5-km-long Cat Linh–Ha Dong metro line in Hanoi, built by China Railway's No. 6 Group, has 12 stations and began operation in 2021.

As of April 1, 2025, it had transported over 35 million passengers, greatly alleviating urban congestion and encouraging green mobility.

During its construction, the project adopted a patented PCC pile foundation reinforcement technology developed by Professor Liu Hanlong's team at China's Chongqing University.

This effectively addressed settlement issues in soft soil conditions, showcasing in-depth China-Vietnam collaboration in infrastructure technology.

The deepening cooperation in technology and infrastructure has greatly enhanced the two countries' regional connectivity and sustainable growth, setting a good example for joint development across the Global South.
