Once-hidden rainforest in China thrives with renewed vitality

Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park has been making progress in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development as more Hainan gibbon infants get spotted and new macrofungi species discovered. 

Covering 4,269 square kilometers, the national park is home to the most concentrated and well-preserved tropical rainforests in China and the only habitat of Hainan gibbons, a rare primate.

Over the past three years, population of Hainan gibbons has increased to 42 in seven family groups. The park completed an exhaustive survey of key protected species such as Hainan partridge and Hainan peacock-pheasant. Through ex-situ conservation and rewilding programs, 30 Hainan Eld's deer have been reintroduced into the park. This once-hidden rainforest now thrives with renewed vitality.
