The 2025 IIHF Women's Ice Hockey World Championship (Division IA) began on Sunday In Shenzhen's Universiade Sports Center and will run until April 19.
The event brings together six powerhouse national teams, namely China, Denmark, France, Austria, Slovakia and the Netherlands, for a week of intense competition as they battle through 15 games for a coveted promotion to the top division.
At the opening ceremony, IIHF President Luc Tardif and Guangdong Sports Bureau Chief Cui Jian joined in dropping the ceremonial puck, marking the official start of the championship.
Known as a pioneer city in China's reform and opening-up, the host city Shenzhen is leading the "expanding winter sports to the south" initiative, aimed at breaking regional barriers by promoting ice and snow sports in traditionally warmer regions.
