Badminton Asia Secretary General: Sport promotes friendship between China, Malaysia

Kenny Goh Chee Keong, the Secretary General of both the Badminton Association of Malaysia and Badminton Asia, sat down with CGTN Sports Scene's Zhu Mandan to talk about youth development programs in China and Malaysia, as well as ways to build greater friendship between the two countries through sports.

Badminton has been a traditional sport in Malaysia for decades, and as a powerhouse in the sport, its national team was built through an effective youth development system. Goh said that China's huge population gives the country an advantage in the number of young players it can recruit. He added that the Badminton Association of Malaysia has also been working to promote gender equality among players.

Goh added that he hopes China and Malaysia can launch more joint badminton initiatives in the future, Currently, multiple Chinese provinces are conducting badminton exchange events with their Malaysian counterparts.

According to Goh, both the Chinese and Malaysian badminton associations help each other's players in multiple ways when they play matches in the other country. He adds that Malaysia has learned a lot from China about hosting competitions, and he looks forward to further and deeper cooperation between the two sides in the future.
