Chinese President Xi Jinping published a signed article in Malaysian media on Tuesday, underlining the importance of mutual trust and cooperation between China and Malaysia.
The article, titled "May the Ship of China-Malaysia Friendship Sail Toward an Even Brighter Future," was published in local media including the English-language newspaper The Star ahead of his arrival on Tuesday afternoon in Malaysia for a state visit.
In the article, Xi stressed that both countries should jointly uphold the multilateral trade system and work together to ensure the stability of global industrial and supply chains.
He highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two countries, and called for enhanced strategic communication between the two countries and the strengthening of political trust.
Xi also emphasized the need to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and advance the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, with particular focus on sectors such as the digital economy, green economy, blue economy and tourism.
He further stated that China and Malaysia should work together to promote global governance in a fairer and more equitable direction, safeguard the multilateral trade system and ensure the stability of global supply chains. Xi also called for maintaining an open and cooperative international environment.
This year, Malaysia assumes the role of chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) rotating presidency. Xi expressed China's strong support for ASEAN unity and development. He reiterated China's full support for Malaysia's leadership in fulfilling its responsibilities as the 2025 ASEAN chair and looked forward to Malaysia playing a key role as a coordinator in China-ASEAN relations, further strengthening the bridge between the two sides.
Xi stressed that China is advancing Chinese modernization and is willing to collaborate with Malaysia and other ASEAN nations to resist the undercurrent of geopolitics and bloc confrontation and break the current unilateralism and protectionism so as to push forward the China-Malaysia community of shared future and forge a closer China-ASEAN community of shared future.
