Chinese mainland criticized its Taiwan region leader Lai Ching-te in proposing a "big purchase and investment" scheme to the United States, as the latter claims to impose a 32-percent tariff on Taiwan. Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the office, said that Lai deliberately sold Taiwan's core advantageous industries to the U.S., and Lai authorities disregarded the interests of the people and the prospects of Taiwan's economic development. Zhu said that its engagement is such a "kowtowing to the U.S. and selling Taiwan" is truly despicable.
