Wuhan Three Towns were able to rescue a point in a 4-4 draw with Chinese Super League (CSL) opponents Beijing Guoan at home, despite trailing 4-1 with three minutes of regulation time left on Tuesday.
Guoan grabbed the lead in the third minute, thanks to a decent spin and finish from Fabio Abreu, which took a slight deflection off a defender. Abreu then turned provider when he set up Zhang Yuning to make it 2-0 in the 23rd minute.
Three Towns got back into the action in the 31st minute, following Manuel Palacious's brilliant long-range shot.
But just three minutes later, Serginho restored the two-goal advantage by heading in a corner. That left the visitors ahead 3-1 at the break.
Beijing extended their edge to 4-1, as Yang Liyu made sure Abreu's chip went over the line, 24 minutes into the second half.
Wuhan started to mount their comeback with three minutes left in regulation time in the second half. First, Zhong Jinbao finished low in the box.
Then in the seventh minute of stoppage time, Wang Gang's handball led to Gustavo Sauer converting from the spot. And the rally was complete in the 10th minute of added-on time, when Zhang Zhenyang headed in a corner kick to make it 4-4.
Guoan stay in fifth place, while Three Towns are now 13th, in the early stages of the season.
