Both Shanghai giants claimed impressive Chinese Super League (CSL) victories on Wednesday night, with Shanghai Shenhua coming from behind to defeat Qingdao Hainiu and ascend to the top of the league table, while Shanghai Port triumphed with a 4-1 win over Tianjin Jinmen Tiger.
In the match featuring Shenhua, Qingdao took an early lead in the 4th minute when Alves da Silva scored with a close-range effort. However, Shenhua responded quickly, finding an equalizer just moments later. A precise corner from Chen Jinyi connected with Jiang Shenglong, who headed the ball into the net.
In the 16th minute, Chen delivered another corner that led to a near miss from Wu Xi, whose backheel shot hit the crossbar. Andre Luis was on hand to follow up with a header, putting Shenhua ahead 2-1. The lead, however, was short-lived as Qingdao earned a penalty a few minutes later, which Elvis Saric converted to level the score at 2-2 by halftime.
The second half saw Shenhua regain the lead in the 54th minute, with Chen Jinyi again providing an assist. Joao Teixeira made a brilliant adjustment before unleashing a powerful shot, giving Shenhua a 3-2 advantage. This goal ultimately secured the victory for Shenhua, who now sit at the top of the league table with a total of 17 points.
Meanwhile, in their match against Tianjin, Port showcased their attacking prowess, scoring three goals in the first half through Gabrielzinho, an own goal from Xie Weijun, and Leonardo. After the break, Wang Shenchao added a fourth for Port, extending their lead. Although Tianjin managed to score a penalty through Xadas in the 83rd minute, the match ended 4-1 in favor of Port, who currently rank third in the league with one match in hand.
In other league action, Zhejiang FC played to a 2-2 draw against Meizhou Hakka, Chengdu Rongcheng also ended their match against Yunnan Yukun in a 1-1 draw, and Dalian Yingbo secured a 1-0 victory over Henan FC, continuing their unbeaten streak at home this season.
