“Surprising” — that's how Forward Future section jury member Cyril Schäublin described the standout quality of the shortlisted works by young Chinese filmmakers, responding to a question from CGTN Digital reporter Zhang Meng at the 15th Beijing International Film Festival.

The Swiss director said he was particularly impressed by one Chinese film: "It made really bold decisions – with time, with the world, and with how you think it is. It surprised me, and I think that's the most important."

This year's Forward Future section features 15 debut or second feature films selected from over 500 submissions across nearly 90 countries, showcasing the fresh voices and new energy shaping global cinema.
