To commemorate the 1065th birthday of Mazu, the folk goddess of the sea, a grand sacrificial ceremony was held in Putian, Fujian. More than 10,000 people attended the event, including local residents and global admirers, as well as groups representing Mazu temples from around the world. In 2009, the belief in Mazu was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
