Meet Miaodu, a disciple at Fawang Temple on Songshan Mountain in Dengfeng City, Henan Province, central China. Songshan Mountain holds significant cultural importance as one of China's Five Great Mountains and is known as a place where Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism converge.
When asked about his favorite line from a book, Master Miaodu shared a piece of wisdom from "Zeng Guang Xian Wen," an ancient collection of proverbs and mottos: "When reading, do not let a single word escape your attention; one word may be worth a thousand pieces of gold." This saying emphasizes the importance of reading attentively and understanding every single word.
Master Miaodu explained the profound impact of this proverb on him. "This saying deeply resonates because it reminds me that just like practicing kung fu, every move and every stance requires diligent study and a serious attitude." He said that he believes true understanding, whether gained from reading or through martial arts training, demands complete concentration and dedication.
