Xiao Guodong of China beat Matthew Selt of England 10-4 at the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield, England, on Sunday, advancing to the round of 16 at the tournament.
Xiao built an early 7-2 lead in the first session with two centuries and three 50+breaks. Though Selt claimed two frames as the second session began, it turned out to be his final resistance. Xiao clinched three consecutive frames in response to seal the deal.
Xiao will next face the winner between Scottish four-time world champion John Higgins and Englishman Joe O'Connor.
Meanwhile, China's Zhao Xintong led 7-2 over last year's runner-up Jak Jones of Wales after the first session. If Zhao beats Jones in the end, he will have an all-Chinese clash with Lei Peifan in the round of 16.
Fan Zhengyi of China trailed behind world No. 8 Mark Allen of Northern Ireland 5-4 after the first session.
