As part of the "Journey to Chinese Civilization: Henan" cultural program, 27 journalists from Latin American and Caribbean countries joined CGTN's reporting team for an in-depth exploration of the rich heritage of Henan Province. Among the highlights of their journey was a visit to the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that left the group in awe.
Carved into the limestone cliffs south of Luoyang, the Longmen Grottoes were first constructed in 493 AD and expanded over the course of more than four centuries. Today, the site boasts over 2,300 caves and niches, some 2,800 inscriptions, more than 70 pagodas, as well as an astonishing 110,000 statues. The grandeur, scale, and intricate artistry of the grottoes have earned the site worldwide acclaim.
Quinn St. Juste, a journalist with Barbados Today, believes that visitors can sense the eyes of history when visiting the Longmen Grottoes. The experience not only brought ancient China to life, but also offered the journalists a profound insight into the cultural and spiritual depth of Chinese civilization.
