China, U.S. have not held consultations or negotiations on tariff-related issues, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Thursday when asked to confirm report on such talks.
"As far as I understand it, China and the United States have not conducted consultations or negotiations on the tariff issue, let alone reached an agreement," spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference.
Guo pointed out that this tariff war was initiated by the U.S., and China's attitude is consistent and clear-cut — China is open to negotiation, but will also fight to the end if needed.
Dialogue and negotiation must be equal, respectful and mutually beneficial, he noted.
