Cedric Behrel, co-founder of the independent UK distributor Trinity CineAsia, which holds theatrical distribution rights to "Ne Zha 2" across 37 European countries, spoke with CGTN in an exclusive interview during the 15th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF). He noted that Chinese films are gradually breaking into international markets, driven by strong box office performance.
As international audiences increasingly have different needs when going to cinemas, "there is a real opportunity for Chinese films" to go global, Behrel said.
He also noted that beyond blockbusters and fantasy films, smart comedies and dramas about modern life in China, such as "Upstream" and "Her Story," could open new windows for international audiences to better understand China.
