The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump have not had a phone call recently.

"As far as I know, there have not been any calls between the two presidents recently," said Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

"Let me make it clear one more time that China and the United States are not engaged in any consultation or negotiation on tariffs," Guo told reporters at a regular press briefing.

The spokesperson made the statement in response to reports that Trump told Time magazine President Xi had called him.
