A total of 59 percent of the American public believe U.S. President Donald Trump's policies have worsened the country's economic conditions, up from 51 percent in March, CNN reported on Monday, citing its new poll.

Americans remain broadly dissatisfied with the country's economy and lack enthusiasm for the White House's sweeping new trade policies, it said.

"With the impact of new tariffs still largely to come, six in 10 already say that Trump's policies have increased the cost of living in their community, with just 12 percent saying his agenda has helped to bring prices down," the news outlet pointed out.

"Just 34 percent of Americans call themselves enthusiastic or optimistic about the economy, with 29 percent saying they're pessimistic and 37 percent that they're afraid," it noted.
