Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday attended the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN), and the founding of the UN has opened a new chapter for all countries to jointly promote peace and seek development.
Today the international landscape is undergoing profound changes, with the cause of peace and development facing new and severe challenges, Wang said, noting that at this critical juncture in history, the future of humanity will be decided by whether the countries can make the right choice.
BRICS countries, as a positive and constructive force on the international stage, should take the lead in promoting global peace and development.
Brazilian Foreign Affairs Minister Mauro Vieira presided over the meeting, and all parties at the meeting discussed the role of BRICS in promoting peace and security.
