Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), one of the most famous hospitals in China, launched a new medical assistance program on Tuesday, with digital tech playing a key role.

PUMCH and 156 medical institutions from Hebei, Henan, Shaanxi, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia signed a collaborative agreement for "Internet+Medical Alliance" medical assistance.

The agreement marks the official launch of a regional medical resource-sharing initiative. By leveraging digital technology, the collaboration aims to break down regional barriers in healthcare, signaling a deeper expansion of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development strategy in the medical field and promoting the development of a Healthy China strategy.

As a key promoter of the agreement, the Hebei provincial government's Beijing office played a bridging and coordinating role by facilitating the platform's connectivity and helping 20 hospitals from Hebei sign the agreement during the ceremony.

An official from the office said the cooperative agreement is an important initiative to implement the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development strategy. It seeks to enhance grassroots healthcare services in Hebei by introducing high-quality medical resources from Beijing, allowing residents to access advanced medical care closer to home.

Collaboration is vital to deepening medical reform and promoting the downward flow of high-quality medical resources. The "Internet+Medical Alliance" model will use remote consultations, online training, case discussions, and other methods to help grassroots healthcare institutions improve their diagnosis and treatment capabilities, pushing forward the implementation of the tiered diagnosis and treatment system. In the future, Peking Union Medical College Hospital will establish long-term cooperative mechanisms with partner medical institutions, using technical assistance, talent training and collaborative discipline-building to comprehensively enhance grassroots healthcare services.

By creating a unified information-sharing platform, the collaboration will enable mutual recognition of test and examination results and coordinated remote medical services. This will reduce redundant testing and medical costs for patients and increase the efficiency of healthcare resource use. At the same time, real-time case discussions and remote teaching will provide regular learning opportunities for healthcare workers in grassroots institutions, promoting the widespread adoption of standardized diagnosis and treatment practices.
