Anastasia Fridman, a Dutch exchange student at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, is a classically-trained violinist who has fallen in love with the Chinese erhu. She believes that the two instruments can express a much wider range of emotions than they are traditionally associated with. Just as the violin isn't limited to romance, so the two-stringed erhu can depict more than sorrow. Through her music, Anastasia hopes to create harmony between the voices of East and West and build a bridge between the two cultures.
