Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Wednesday lauded China's "admirable" response to U.S.-imposed tariffs as he met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Brasilia.
China's just actions have garnered broad support, while the irresponsible unilateral actions of certain countries deserve collective opposition, Lula said.
Brazil stands ready to work with China to advance greater success for the BRICS mechanism, consolidate multilateral cooperation, advocate for free trade, defend international rules, safeguard global peace and achieve shared development, he said, adding that power politics shall not be allowed to override international justice.
Lula said the solid mutual trust between Brazil and China, frequent high-level exchanges and deepening cooperation across all fields fully demonstrate that upholding friendship with China is the right choice, setting a model for South-South cooperation.
Wang said Lula's decision to deepen the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership demonstrates strategic foresight and it is fully in line with the long-term and fundamental interests of the Brazilian people.
China's firm countermeasures against unilateral bullying not only safeguard its legitimate rights and interests but also protect the common interests of developing nations and uphold international fairness and justice, he said.
At this critical juncture in history, amid storms and challenges, China will stay resolute, strengthen its foundations and enhance cooperation with BRICS and Global South countries, Wang underscored, adding that China will remain committed to multilateralism, defend international rules, sow new seeds of hope for the world and create fresh opportunities for peace.
