The United States Department of Commerce reports that GDP has decreased at an annualized rate of 0.3 percent in the first quarter of 2025. This is the first contraction since 2022. Wang Yaojing, associate professor of economics at Peking University, says U.S. tariffs have triggered a recession and prolonged economic pain.
